From the desk of our CEO, Jay Stewart:

“Say thank you.”  Those words, directed towards my five sisters and I, came out of my Mom’s mouth literally thousands of times as we were growing up.  We lost our Mom this year, so this Thanksgiving those familiar words come to mind.  Thanksgiving is like her frequent reminders as a kid to be thankful for what we receive, that we didn’t necessarily deserve (blessings), and for what we didn’t get – like a swat on the butt – which in my case was probably well deserved (grace).

Thanks to the direction and encouragement of both of my parents, being thankful usually comes naturally.  But everyone once in a while, I feel this nudge inside, from the spirit of my late Mother, saying “say thank you”.  So if I haven’t expressed my sincere gratitude sufficiently lately, let me make myself perfectly clear.  In my mind, I’m literally the luckiest guy in the world!  I have a wonderful wife and four awesome kids.  I have the opportunity to lead the sharpest and hardest working group of people you can imagine.  Our company has a solid book of business thanks to our many loyal customers that truly appreciate what we do. DWS had a successful year one as 100% employee-owned, and our future is bright and exciting!

It’s not that we don’t have problems and challenges, better known as “opportunities” to the eternal optimists in the crowd.  But at the end of the day, the blessings and grace afforded to me, from childhood through today, are more than I could have ever imagined.

May this Thanksgiving be a wonderful time with family and friends for each of you.  Take stock in the blessings and grace you’ve been on the receiving end of.  And finally, be intentional about blessing and extending grace to your loved ones, acquaintances, and not-so-perfect strangers.
